The Apple Cider Vinegar Craze.

Ok, friends.  I want to talk about something very smelly today and I need your input.

Apple Cider Vinegar.  With the "Mother"

Why?  Well, I'm thinking of jumping on this Apple Cider Vinegar bandwagon I've been hearing about so much lately and I need help!  There is SO much information on Pinterest and it is overwhelming.  Everyone seems to have a different recipe for drinking this vile stuff, a different idea on when to take it and how much.  Can y'all help?

Backing up a little, I first started to pay attention to the Apple Cider Vinegar craze a few months ago when it began popping up all over my Pinterest as a health and weight loss aide.  I'm sure I'm not the only busy mama who would love a little help shedding some of that winter weight!  Am I right?  I know this "craze" has been around for a long time but I am just now starting to take notice.

I think it's also important to note that you have to get the kind that says "With the Mother".  I don't know about you, but every time I see this, I feel like there is an alien inside this bottle.  I don't know why that's where my mind is going.  But it does.

Anyway...

Apparently, this stuff can be used for a whole host of things other than my particular favorite perk (the weight loss).  Am I convinced this will help me lose even an ounce?  In a word---NO.  I am a total pessimist when it comes to people telling me that certain things will help me lose weight.  They NEVER work for me.  The only thing that ever works for me is eating like a freakin' bird and that just makes me super irritable. But even though I don't believe anything will actually work (other than actually eating "right" and working out--ugh), I tend to go ahead and try it anyway. Juuuuust in case. I am what you'd call a GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT.

So this is the latest thing I've decided I should try.  :)

I've read to drink it immediately when I wake up.  I've read to drink it three times a day.  I've read you should mix it with just water, with just water and honey, with just water, honey and cayenne etc.

Which one is it!?!!

I gag every time I smell this stuff so I'm pretty scared to try to drink it.  I told Craig it smells like Easter eggs.  (I will forever associate the smell of vinegar with dyeing Easter eggs).

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to throw a couple of tablespoons into my smoothie.  I'm not sure what else will be in it.  I'll probably make it up as I go.  If it's good, I'll be sure to let you know!

Are you on this bandwagon?  Has it worked for you?  How do you use it?  How do you drink yours?  And when?  See!!  Questions!!!

I know my little blog is still really new so in all honesty, I'll just be happy if anyone reads this post and ecstatic if someone actually has a suggestion.  ;)  I'm hoping someone has some insight but if not, I'll pick a post on Pinterest and just go for it and report back here how it goes.

You can find it here on Amazon Prime or at your local grocery store!  (I've heard the Bragg brand is the best).

Can't believe it's already Wednesday!  We have a very busy weekend ahead of us with a baseball tournament Friday and Saturday and possibly Sunday for both boys.  I'm scared to even check the weather forecast.  It's Texas so it could be 30 and raining or it could be 85 and sunny.  Fingers crossed for the latter.  ;)  My baseball mom friends are fun to hang with though so it'll be fun!

Have a happy day!!

  1. I bought some 3 weeks ago with the same intentions as you.....and then I smelled it. It's still untouched. My co-worker swears it's helped her lose some weight, however. She takes hers with a shot of orange juice. I just can't get passed the smell!

    1. The smell is the WORST. I tried it this morning in my smoothie though and I can't taste it (hardly) at all! I can smell it a tiny bit bit but I put it in a tumbler with a lid and straw so if I didn't know it was in there, I probably wouldn't know the difference. Now watch, someone will tell me that drinking it in a smoothie negates all the good stuff!! haha It's probably only good for you if you feel like you're going to die if you do!

  2. I'm gonna be no help because I've heard everything you've heard but haven't tried it. :(

    1. Just had it with my smoothie and it is barely noticeable!! Yay! I'll post the "recipe" tomorrow. Does it count as a recipe if I'm just dumping things at random into my blender?? hahaha. Praying for pretty weather this weekend for our baseball games!!

  3. I started reading your blog recently and enjoy it...keep up the good work. Vinegar reminds me of dying Easter eggs too. As far as drinking apple cider vinegar, the studies on the health benefits seem to vary. It might help you lose weight because it makes you feel full and lowers your blood sugar levels. If you do drink it, make sure you drink it mixed with 8 oz of water through a straw and then brush your teeth. The straw helps with the vinegar not coming into contact with your taste buds and not damaging your tooth enamel. I would do fresh lemon squeezed in water before vinegar. Both can cause upset stomachs if you haven't eaten anything. Good luck!

    1. Thanks for reading, Wendy!! :) And yes, I think those are great tips!! A straw makes everything better. I've also discovered a lid helps cover the smell! haha. I've got it in my smoothie right now and it's not bad at all!

  4. I've gone the Route of ACV but it never did anything for me. It's not the best for your teeth or gut because of the high acid content. Might I suggest you give Plexus a try. I was a huge skeptic.....and I'd be happy to share my story with you. But it has literally transformed my health!!

    1. Hi! See, I've heard it's great for your gut! So much conflicting info! 😩 And I've tried Plexus twice now! Both time I gained 5 pounds! The second time I tried it, I made sure to be consistent with it and was on it for several months. I didn't notice any changes in anything but I didn't really have any issues to fix either. I already was sleeping great and don't deal with any headaches or other health problems. It helped my husband's migraines through. But I've known so many other people personally that have lost weight on it! So I know it can work. 😊 It just didn't work for me which was a bummer. 😕

  5. I buy a local version that is flavored called Mother Shrug(right now I have lime flavored and have heard the cranberry is good also). I add between a teaspoon and tablespoon to my flavored seltzer water. I keep a straw or spoon in the glass because I like to mix it often (or else the acv seems to sink to the bottom). I don't do it everyday but probably should....

    1. That's interesting! I'll look that up to see if it's available online or anywhere else. Thanks!
